Bucharest, 11 May 2014 – We the Speakers of Parliaments of SEECP Participating States present on the occasion of the inauguration of the South East European Cooperation Process Parliamentary Assembly,
Guided by the principles enshrined in the Charter of good neighborly relations, stability, security and cooperation, signed in Bucharest in 2000, as the founding document of SEECP, as well as by our adherence to the European or Euro Atlantic values and principles which are the foundation of peace and stability in the European continent,
Taking into account the fundamental role of the Parliaments in preserving and strengthening democracy as well as in defending the principles of international law,
Looking with concern at our Eastern Neighborhood at this particular point in time,
Express our deep concern about the recent developments in Ukraine, the subsequent escalation of violence in Eastern Ukraine and the possible spillover effects these developments might have on the regional security and stability, and reiterate that we do not recognize the results of the illegal referendum held in Crimea and the ensuing steps,
Restate our firm commitment to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine,
Stress the pre-eminence of international law in promoting democracy, the principles of rule of law and human rights as prerequisites for a secure, stable, economically sound and socially cohesive Europe.
